Stories from our Community
For privacy, the names in these stories have been changed.
Connecting with community
Mele is an elderly woman who was feeling isolated and lonely. Her Health Coach had started a small coffee group and Mele agreed to attend.
She now enjoys regular meetups, and over time, the group blossomed into a supportive network where members check in on each other and share companionship.
Mele now enjoys her friendships and feeling like she is part in the community. She feels good about life again.

From the brink of homelessness
James was on the fringe of homelessness when he met with his Health Coach. His biggest concern was providing for his dog, who was his constant companion and emotional support.
His Health Coach connected him with essential resources, a job and housing services, to ensure he didn’t end up on the streets.
On a mission to help James, he also posted on social media and the local community jumped in to provide pet food and comfort items while he got back on his feet.
Compassion while facing cancer
When Rawinia was diagnosed with cancer, she faced a tough journey of surgery, treatment, and recovery. At the time she felt she had to act strong for her friends and family, which left her feeling very alone.
Rawinia’s Health Coach helped her see that her home was not a healthy place to heal. She provided emotional support and helped Rawinia find a better rental where she could focus on getting well.

A 20-year-old dream back on track
Lisa had struggled with her mental health as long as she could remember. For 20 years she had dreamed of studying sign language but didn't feel ready to take the next step.
After six months of encouragement and structured support from her Health Coach, Lisa felt ready to take the plunge and enrol in a New Zealand Sign Language course.
She is now hopeful and excited at the start of a very special new chapter in her life.
