If you would like to speak to a healthcare professional (school nurse) during school hours, you can use our free School-Based Health Service (SBHS).
This service supports student health for those in years 9 to 13 who are in secondary school or alternative education facilities. SBHS is run by registered nurses and supported by medical practitioners.
What can I see the school nurse for?
You can see the school nurse for anything related to student health and well-being, including sexual health, mental health, and more! Students, parents, caregivers, school staff, the school nurse, or your doctor can get you started.
This service is for all students, but it focuses on those without access to health services or a GP. The school nurse also treats minor ACC injuries and can refer students to other health services in the community if needed.
How do I access the School Based Health Service?
Each school will have a way for students or caregivers to make appointments.
You might be able to do this through the school office, pastoral care, paper notes, email, walk-ins, or phone calls. Speak to your school to find out.
