Navigating change with care and community at heart

Western Bay of Plenty PHO is working closely with Te Whatu Ora | Health New Zealand to ensure any transitions of practices to other PHOs, including those currently affecting our region, are managed carefully with continuity of care at the core. We recognise that the primary care system is evolving, and support changes that genuinely put patients at the centre and reflect the voices of our communities.

We strongly disagree with claims that undervalue the role of PHOs. They have a long history of supporting the modernisation and strengthening of general practice. It is our belief that primary care goes beyond general practice, providing a range of complementary wraparound services, led by frontline teams, that respond to the diverse needs of our communities.

Our focus remains firmly on the health and well-being of our local communities. We are committed to ensuring that all enrolled patients continue to receive high-quality, equitable, and accessible primary care, including funded and individualised services that respond to a wide range of needs.

As a non-profit organisation, our purpose is to serve our people, and we are proud to deliver trusted, community-based care in partnership with our local providers and iwi. We are here to ensure everyone can access the care they need, in ways that suits them. We believe patients should have options, because healthcare is not one-size-fits-all.
